Meet the fastest accelerating production car in the world — and it’s electric.

With 885Nm of instantaneous torque, produced by four electric motors, two at the front and another two at the rear, the OWL boasts 880kW of power and 885Nm of torque, and is able to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in less than 2.0 seconds.

First shown at Frankfurt in 2017, the OWL is the work of Japan’s Masanori Yoshida and his engineering outfit Aspark.

His concept for the car was simple: to make conventional supercars look slow and to produce a vehicle in limited numbers to supply to exclusive clients around the globe.

Aspark Engineers explored all possible ways to achieve OWL’s major target — 0-100km/h in less than 2.0 seconds.

As a result, hundreds of simulations were performed in a quest to deliver the ultimate performance.

It’s second prototype car, tested in February last year, produced 0-100km/h times that were all under 2.0 seconds.

The best result was 1.89 seconds.

In December 2018, Aspark signed an agreement with Manifattura Automobili Torino (MAT) for the final development and manufacturing of the Aspark OWL.

The car which stands 99cm tall and is made of carbon fibre uses a 750 volt Lithium Ion battery pack with a drive range of over 300km and minimum battery capacity of 50KWh.

The prototype is all-wheel drive, with two 140kW electric motors at the front and two 300kW motors at the rear.

This produces a combined total power output of more than 880kW which has been optimised to propel the Owl from zero to 100km/h in less than 1.9 seconds.

A torque vectoring control system with sensors constantly monitoring vehicle dynamics sends exactly the right amount of power to each of the four wheels.

The driving position and car control was challenging but a unique seating solution ensures the criteria for OWL’s interior has been met.

Aspark Co. Ltd will unveil the final production version of the OWL at the Dubai International Motor Show in November.

First customer deliveries are expected in April, 2020.

“The Owl for Aspark is the first stepping stone of a grander vision: It is our intention to continue to growth and to deliver exceptional products to our customers all over the world.”
